    Description

PLEASE NOTE: Our members are spread out all across London - even as far north as the M1. This is unusual, as most cycling clubs are based on people starting rides from their local area. We were founded in the East End and still hold sessions there, but we now have activities across the city.

On this occasion, we will be doing a ride to to St Albans, where we start the ride at Elstree & Borehamwood Station, by the exit gates, at 10am. This station is in Zone 6 and is easy to reach from central London by taking the Thameslink train from London St Pancras International Station, Platform B, which leaves at 09:33 and arrives at Elstree & Borehamwood Station at 09:57.

We start by cycling through Borehamwood along the Tykes Water Greenway, which is for walkers and cyclists and, as explained on the council notice board, "runs along the Tykes Water (hence its name)":

    We then pass through Shenley:

We continue through London Colney to St Albans.

By doing a more leisurely ride to St Albans, we can do a short tour of the place, rather than just coming straight home on the train. Unfortunately, the Gorhambury Estate is closed, as it often is, to allow shooting to take place, but we can still take a look at the Sopwell Nunnery Ruins.

We will stop off for a refreshment break at Verulamium Park and cycle round the park. We will then return by cycling past the Abbey to Watling Street, which takes us past Park Street, Colney Street and Radlett to Elstree & Borehamwood Station.

The 19 mile route for this ride can be downloaded from here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes....
