RAIR: NEW EXHIBITION CELEBRATING THE UK’S LOVE FOR AIR MAX
A new exhibition of rare Air Max trainers is opening in London, to mark the annual celebration of the iconic Nike trainer.
Curated by prominent authorities in sneaker culture, The Drop Date and Sneaker Freaker, and presented by leading luxury resale marketplace, StockX, the interactive exhibition features 20 pairs of highly coveted Air Max trainers, from 2002 to 2010. It recognises the ‘golden years’, when Nike collaborated with a wide range of designers, artists, and musicians to produce Air Maxes that are still amongst the most sought-after trainers to buy today.
Among others, attendees will be able to see rare trainers such as the iconic Parra x Nike Air Max 1 “Cherrywood”, which most recently sold in the UK for £4,500, and the Nike Air Max 90 “White Volt” designed by eminent contemporary artist KAWS, which trades on StockX between £600 and £1,100 per pair.
Each trainer at the exhibition will be accompanied with a short article detailing the unique history of the shoe, and fans will be able to immerse themselves in the brand’s history via a display of every Air Max shoebox from its creation in 1987 through to the present day. Attendees will also be able to purchase some of the rare models on show in real time through the StockX platform.
March 26th 1987 signified the birth of what we now recognise as Air Max. It was the day the legendary designer Tinker Hatfield bought us the iconic trainer that has evolved synonymously with fashion and culture.
