Description

We all lead busy lives and inevitably there are times when we feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed. It doesn’t matter whether it’s work stress, relationship stress, care of young children stress, financial stress or stress about our health…. we all face daily challenges that easily throw us off balance.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is an ancient healing practice from China, which has been used for thousands of years to improve health at different levels. It boosts vitality, prevents and heals illness and enhances longevity. Doing qigong even for a few minutes can have a calming, rejuvenating and revitalizing effect.

What does Qigong mean?

Qi can be translated as energy or breath and Gong means work, so it is often described as energy work. It is an excellent way of bringing the body, breath and mind into balance and harmony.

Techniques include slow, soft, smooth movements or still static forms, synchronised with deep abdominal breathing. It is also simple and easy to learn, yet profoundly healing. It is similar to Tai Chi but without the martial arts aspect.

Practicing qigong on a regular basis strengthens all parts of the body and body systems which include the nervous system, digestive, respiratory, endocrine and muscular-skeletal system.

Qigong is a great Stress Buster

Qigong is an excellent stress buster. It works on the body and the mind. As you exercise, both the mind and the body get relaxed which helps to reduce stress.

It triggers the healing parasympathetic branch of the nervous system to take over from the stress-induced flight or fight, sympathetic mode of the nervous system. This boosts immunity.

Qigong Strengthens Organs

Qigong has been found to be helpful in strengthening and balancing internal organs. There are various techniques for strengthening specific organs. Even without a particular ailment, almost everyone has weaknesses in an organ. Regular practice of qigong can help to redress the weakness.

Emotional Balancer

Mindful movement as qigong is an excellent emotional balancer. After practicing qigong highly charged emotions settle and you feel calmer.

When there is a reduction in the level of stress, a person’s emotions become more easily balanced and they can feel calmer and less emotional.

In this Qigong and Mindfulness Meditation workshop led by Marilyn Harvey, you will learn practical qigong exercises, breathing exercises and mindfulness meditation to reduce stress in your daily life. You will leave feeling calm, balanced and revitalised.
