This talk will highlight pathways for public engagement in planetary science research, from joining the UK Meteor Network and contributing scientific data to the Global Meteor Network, to helping researchers search for micrometeorites in urban roof dust. This presentation offers both a window into current planetary science research and a tutorial for enthusiastic participants wanting to explore extraterrestrial material, be it in the sky above their homes to material landing on their roofs.

This Public Lecture will take place on Tuesday 31 March 2026.
This is a hybrid event, which can be attended in person at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, or online via Zoom.
17:30–18:00: Guests arrive for the Public Lecture. Refreshments served in the Lower Library.
18:00–19:00: Talk takes place (including Q&A)
19:00-20:00: Drinks reception in Lower Library

Speaker Bio - Dr Stephen Grimes
Stephen is an Associate Professor at the University of Plymouth. His research career has encompassed a wide variety of topics from active geothermal systems, to biomineralization of organic matter, to paleoclimate reconstructions. Recently, he has become more involved in citizen science related research, which is what he will talk about this evening.
