Users of psychedelic substances sometimes report contact with seemingly intelligent forces beyond conventional explanation. For many indigenous groups that use ayahuasca and peyote/San Pedro, the idea that the substances allow contact with plant spirits is incontrovertible, whilst reports of entity contact are relatively common amongst users of dimethyltryptamine (DMT). Join us for September's Psychedelic Supper as we consider the questions:

► Can psychedelic substances allow us to communicate with plant spirits and otherworldy intelligences? How might we test this hypothesis? What are the other possible explanations?
► Do all psychedelic substances allow communication, or only some? If only some, why? Are there spirits/entities associated with synthetic substances like 2C-B and LSD? For psychedelic substances that may be either lab synthesised or brewed/extracted, does the method of production affect its communicative potential?
► What is the relationship between different spirits/entities? In particular, given the psychedelic ingredient in ayahuasca is DMT, what is the relationship between ayahuasca plant spirits and DMT entities?
► Do the spirits/entities want to talk? Can we ask them for help, and do they want anything in return?

The supper is bring-and-share, and we ask that each person contributes a vegetarian dish (a starter, main or dessert). You are welcome to bring your own drinks.
