Description

POSTPONED - Nicer Tuesdays: March, new date, same line-up 15th September

Today we’re launching tickets for March’s Nicer Tuesdays event, and we couldn’t be more excited about the line-up.

Taking place on 31 March, it’s certain to be an inspiring evening, as Studio Output, Sam Gainsborough, Joy Yamusangie and Abbie Trayler-Smith will be taking to the stage to deliver ten minutes of insight into a recent project. Spanning graphic design, film, painting, and photography there’s sure to be something you’re into, so grab yourself a ticket and pop back to find out more about our speakers this month.

As always, doors will open at 6:30 PM and the talks begin at 7:15.

Studio Output

Studio Output is a London-based design agency, which joins the dots between marketing, brand and product. Recently, the studio took on the rebrand of cult music-streaming platform Mixcloud and it’s this project that Output’s Johanna Drewe will be talking us through at Nicer Tuesdays. A total design overhaul, the identity visualised the connecting power of music, using the “i” in Mixcloud’s name to do so.

Sam Gainsborough

A director and animator, Sam’s work sees him mixing analogue and digital techniques to create tactile work. In Sam’s recent film, Facing It, this took the form of melting plasticine faces which adorned the characters of a short exploring social anxiety. The piece takes place in a familiar (maybe all too familiar) scenario – a busy pub – and follows the protagonist as he battles to connect with others, a struggle that physically manifests on his face. Sam will be joining us to give some insight into the making of Facing It and the amazing techniques employed to bring it to life.

Joy Yamusangie

Joy is a London-based artist who last week graced your screens as part of this year’s Ones to Watch, so we’re thrilled to be inviting them to the Nicer Tuesdays stage later this month. An artist who employs myriad techniques, Joy will be giving an overview of their journey from completing a bachelor’s in illustration at Portsmouth to practising as a full-time artist today. With works that stem from their personal experiences, whether it’s small-town racism or dreams, it’s sure to be an insightful talk.

Sophie Mayanne

Last but by absolutely no means least is Sophie Mayanne. A photographer based in London and the Costwolds, Sophie’s work opens up important conversations around diversity and inclusion, particularly around body positivity. Her ongoing work Behind the Scars aims to tell the stories behind scars of all shapes and sizes, and last year the photographer produced a campaign for Mothercare. Featuring real new mums, the series called for women to celebrate their post-birth bodies. At Nicer Tuesdays, Sophie will be telling us more about her striking portfolio and how she continues to challenge conventional beauty standards through her fashion and portraiture work
