Description

PERFECTIONISM | BEN STREET IN CONVERSATION WITH DALE ADCOCK, KATRINA BLANNIN + NICK HORNBY

Griffin Gallery is pleased to present a panel conversation with three of the artists from Perfectionism, moderated by Ben Street.

Artists Dale Adcock, Katrina Blannin and Nick Hornby will be discussing their take on the new era of perfectionism and how it has affected their own work and practice, the growing swell of meticulous and almost obsessive artistic practice and the return to the idea of artist as master craftsman.

Collectively, these artists reflect a shift in artistic practice towards the material, the technical and the skilful. Combine this with conceptual rigour, and the result is artwork that shimmers with emotion and power. Long live the Perfectionists.

Dale Adcock’s monumental, symbolic structures give no hint of a brushstroke. And yet they are clearly man-made. Clearly the result of hours of dedicated, and yet invisible, handiwork.

Katrina Blannin’s almost perfect geometric arrangements are as subtle in their variations as to be barely visible, and yet absolutely apparent in the balance of the work.

Nick Hornby is a British artist living and working in London; his notes and musings on ‘perfectionism’ are included in the catalogue for the exhibition.

Ben Street is a freelance art historian, museum educator, and writer. He has lectured on art at a variety of London museums, including the National Gallery, Tate and Dulwich Picture Gallery. For more information about Ben Street, please see http://www.benstreet.com.

This event will include a tour of the Innovation and Development Laboratory of Winsor & Newton and Liquitex, a curator’s tour of the exhibition and a complimentary glass of wine.
