To mark 2020 World Environment Day, we at the Women in International Affairs Network (WIAN) are hosting a two-part virtual event about international careers and how these link with the environment, biodiversity and sustainability. We'll bring together experts in environmental sustainability and international development to deliver presentations and engage in an open discussion on the global issue of biodiversity loss and successfully navigating this issue through careers in sectors such as foreign policy, trade, law, advocacy and programmes. Our panellists will represent and highlight the diverse career options in this space from traditional professions typically associated with biodiversity and sustainability careers such as M&E, academia, research and disaster management to more alternative careers not often associated with the sector such as international trade, peace building, sustainable financing and humanitarian assistance.
Through this event, we aim not only to show how diverse careers in international affairs are, but how careers in sectors such as development, foreign policy, law and international finance are fundamentally linked with the environment. By attending, you will learn more about how global the issue of biodiversity loss is, understand how crucial nature is for our own existence and quality of life, and how to use your careers and individual efforts to reverse the impacts of humanity on our planet and restore nature. You will also have the opportunity to enter our raffle, with winners getting a one-to-one follow-up career session with a selected panel member. You will have this time to ask any of your career questions, advice on personal and professional development, or simply learn more from their personal experiences and career journey.
Join us for two interactive 90 minute virtual panels where the discussion will center around:
Panel One: Careers in Policy, Law and Advocacy: Improving Biodiversity and Preserving Natural Ecosystems (Saturday 30th May)
- Biodiversity and environment links with global careers in sustainability, policy, law, programmes and advocacy.

Panel Two: Mainstreaming Biodiversity in International Development and becoming a Catalyst for Change (Saturday 6th June)
- Building a career in international development, peace-building, disaster management and migration, and the importance of understanding the important role of the environment.
