Celine Song's directorial debut is a strikingly simple, but tremendously emotional, tale of old friends meeting many years later in New York City.
Having emigrated with her family to the US, Na-young has changed her name to Nora and married Arthur, a up-and-coming writer, but keeps in contact with her childhood friend Hae-sung Teo, who announces he plans to visit her in New York for a week. Nora is torn between the affection she has for her old schoolmate and the realisation that this young, sophisticated man may have enduring feelings for her.
Through flashbacks, stylish cinematography and with outstanding performances by Greta Lee (playing Nora, the female lead) and Teo Yoo (who plays the grown up Hae-sung) the film poses the question: do we have one life, or multiple lives? Nora also explores the Korean concept of “in-yun”, the karmic bringing together of people who were lovers in past lives, giving this film a moving, 'What If?' element that makes this a cut above the usual rom-com.
