    Description

The Vito Project/Cinema Museum/ Outings in Art Plus/ present a special day-long Autumn Sunday of LGBTQ film screenings and conversations looking at how far we have come as a community – and where we might be heading next.

THE VITO SUNDAY MATINEE – WITH SOME VERY SPECIAL GUESTS !

What did London look and feel like before all our lives were changed by the idea of liberation ? The Sunday Matinee Movie will be sixties classic The L-Shaped Room (1962) –a gritty b&w portrayal of a single straight woman's life in pre-swinging London, complete with a rare and tender portrayal of her older, lesbian neighbour. The movie will be introduced by its writer Lynne Reid Banks , and will be followed by an open-mic sharing session that will give us all a chance to hearand share our stories from that time. There will testimony from an early member of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality and the Gay Liberation Front, stories from the Gay Authors Workshop - and a chance for everyone to join in the discussion about how looking back at our early days might help us to look forward.

    SUNDAY NIGHT

For the evening session, VITO will be screening a specially put together programme of LGBTQ quickies , with one short, sharp film for each decade of the extraordinary journey that has brought us from the black-and-white world of the nineteen-sixties to now. As part of the post-movie discussion in the evening, The Mosaic LGBT Youth Project will be joining us to share their thoughts on contemporary queer life.

Confirmed at the time of publication with others to be announced soon:

Dream A40 (1965): An experimental drama exploring a gay man’s fears about his sexuality and physical attraction to another man. Written and directed by Lloyd Reckord.

David Is Homosexual (1978): A lonely gay man discovers friends, love and activism in this film made by the Campaign for Homosexual Equality. Written and directed by Wilfred Avery.

Now That It's Morning (1991): An older man takes his teenage boyfriend to his first gay party. Written and directed by Neil Bartlett – and featuring a rare screen performance from the legendary Regina Fong.)

    AND - ITS CHEAP!!

Tickets for this very special day will cost you £5 if you want to come and join us for either just the afternoon or just the evening, and only £8 if you want to stay all day. There'll be a bar, refreshments – and a truly welcoming queer crowd in one of London's most amazing movie-watching spaces. The Cinema Museum is lift accessible.
