Description
London-born artist Noel Paine returns to London’s West End, Gallery 8, Duke Street in January 2015, where he will present anexhibition of his new paintings, drawings, etchings and small studies created, following a move to Vienna in 2013.
Noel Paine has been working in the Landscape since 2008.Originally in London, then by making work inspired by time living in rural Italy and now in Austria where he lives with his partner and young son.
Paine's new work has also been subconsciously influenced by his previous London landscapes when his studio was based at Trinity Buoy Wharf, alongside Canary Wharf and where, for many years, he chose Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park as his ‘subject’
Noel Paine, who grew up in Greenwich, South London says: "‘I had been fascinated by the colour green for a good few years, and when the severe snow hit Italy in 2012. I began making works based on the colour white, and snow. Vienna and the winter there seemed an obvious choice to continue this work.’
For the first time the exhibition will bring together London themes, alongside Italian and Austrian Landscapes. Paine makes the point‘I never set out to illustrate a place, be it London, Italy or Vienna. My paintings are defined by what I find in a visual sense in these woods. The colour, the shapes, and the light are always the starting points for me’
It is perhaps no surprise therefore, to find him ‘back in the woods’.
