    Description

Get tickets now for Nicer Tuesdays November

November’s Nicer Tuesdays will encompass noughties nostalgia, giant robots, historical graphic design and diversity in publishing. Buy tickets here for 28 November, to hear from Ewen Spencer, Dougal Wilson, Gal-dem and GraphicDesign&.

Dougal Wilson has directed some of the best-known, most-watched ads in history. These include award-winning Channel 4 Paralympics ad We’re the Superhumans and four consecutive John Lewis Christmas ads (including The Journey, Always a Woman, Monty the Penguin and Buster the Boxer). His recent idents for Channel 4 unleashed a giant robot on the nation’s TV screens and Dougal will be telling us how it happened.

Can Graphic Design Save Your Life? asks the ongoing, major exhibition at London’s Wellcome Collection, exploring the historical relationship between graphic design and health. This fascinating show was put together by designer Lucienne Roberts and educator Rebecca Wright, founders of publisher GraphicDesign&, and features 200 objects from packaging and posters to branding and flags, which the duo will be delving into in more detail.

Photographer Ewen Spencer made his name capturing British subcultures and nightlife for magazines The Face and Sleazenation. He’s also made films for The Streets and Massive Attack, and documentary Brandy & Coke about the UK garage scene. His recently re-released series Young Love offered a nostalgic and brilliantly honest look back at teenage nights out in the early 2000s, and he’ll be taking us back to those heady, awkward days.

Magazine and creative collective Gal-dem was founded by Liv Little in 2015, who saw a lack of diversity at her university and sought to strengthen the women of colour community. Now it comprises 70 women and non-binary people of colour internationally, and publishes an online and annual print mag as well as hosting events of all sorts. Print Editor Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff and graphic designer Chani Wisdom will be joining our lineup to share more about its work.

Timings for the evening: doors open at 6.30pm and the talks will begin at 7.15pm. Oval Space will be serving delicious food throughout the evening with the venue open until 10pm.
