Description

Tickets available now for Nicer Tuesdays March!

Back once again on the last Tuesday of the month... it’s Nicer Tuesdays! Taking to the stage for the March edition of our monthly event we’ll hear from animator Caitlin McCarthy, photographers Alexander Coggin and Yumna Al-Arashi and Mitch Paone of graphic design studio DIA.

Tickets are now available for the evening which will span typography, photography and animation too. Below we share a little more information about each of our speakers and what they’ll be talking about on the big night.

Joining us all the way from New York this Nicer Tuesdays is Mitch Paone, one half of brand, design and typographic kinesis studio, DIA.

Made up of Mitch Paone and Meg Donohoe, DIA has quickly become a beloved studio with graphic design fans, considering the studio’s fantastic ability to utilise typography as a mode of communication that moves with the reader. Over the years Mitch and Meg’s thinking, which is always jus

t pushing outside of the box, has attracted a wealth of clients, from Nike to a recent Squarespace rebrand.

Mitch will join us to talk through DIA’s specifically unique approach to design which has led to widespread praise and interesting collaborations too.

The high flash photography of Alexander Coggin is instantly recognisable as it hits you pretty much smack around the face. Whether he’s photographing the royal wedding for The New York Times the vegan issue of The Financial Times or crafting a story for AnOther, Zeit Magazin or The Gourmand, you’ll know it’s Alex behind the lens thanks to his overt wit, humour and signature vibrancy.

Relocating to London a few years ago we’re lucky to have Alex in this fair city and even luckier to have him at Nicer Tuesdays to talk through his ongoing personal project, Brothers and Others

Next to take to the stage will be animator Caitlin McCarthy. A Strange Beast signing, Caitlin only graduated a mere couple of years ago but has a number of animation accolades to her name from music videos to a School of Life commission.

More recently, Caitlin released Coldsore, a personal project and heartwarming gem of an animated short. Aptly released on Valentines Day earlier this year, the short tells the tale of the protagonist’s search for a cold sore after the coolest girl in school turns up with one blistering on her lip. The animator will outline how she made the sweet yet altogether gross short.

Spanning across writing, photographing and filmmaking, London-based creative Yumna Al-Arashi’s individual projects are never confined by disciplined creative bands. Originally from Washington, Yumna actually studied social inquiry at The New School in New York before relocating to the UK.

Her work today, no matter what creative angle she’s going for, always encompasses representation; whether she’s photographing the last generation of Muslim women with facial tattoos, taking self-portraits or working in fashion. Yumna will join us at Oval Space to discuss the presence of representation within her work.

Timings for the evening: doors open at 6.30pm and the talks will begin at 7.15pm. Oval Space will be serving delicious food throughout the evening with the venue open until 10pm and we'll have drinks kindly provided by Camden Town Brewery.

A massive thanks to our event partners Adobe Stock and Dropbox, and our supporter The Conran Shop.
