Timberland have partnered with Loyle Carner, Croydon Council and the London National Park City Foundation to re-greenerate the currently unused Thornton Heath Square. As a south Londoner himself, Loyle has a personal connection to the area, and will join us for a community event day from 12pm to 6pm on 17th October. Come and enjoy local music, learn about green ideas, visit stalls and join workshops all for free and open to the public.
Music; working with Loyle Carner and Music City (Croydon’s Creative Enterprise department) we will have curated a raft of local talent performing through the day. From DJ’s and Rappers, to live acts, expect to see some exciting Croydon locals who are making an impact in the local community and across London.
Workshops; learn how to plant and grow your own edibles courtesy of Urban Growth. We’ll be running 1 on 1 sessions on how to plant and grow your own herbs at home, and every person that joins the workshop will get to customise their very own plant pot and take it home with them ready to watch it grow.
Talks; there will be talks throughout the day from various members of the local community and our partners from London National Park City and Urban Growth on how London and its boroughs are working hard to bring back wild greenery to our city.
Showcase; we’ll be showcasing the proposed designs of the re-greeneration of the Thornton Heath Square, and taking on board live feedback from the community to ensure that we have a shared vision of the space for the future.
There will be several stalls also showcasing the work of some important players in the Urban Greening movement to learn a little more on how you can help, even on a micro-scale. London National Park City will be on hand to discuss what we can all do to bring more green back to our city and you can learn about the new LNPC Ranger program supported by Timberland. Urban Growth, a social enterprise focussed on gardening will also be there to run our Workshops and Showcase, and to also show you how just a little bit of effort can have you growing your own food at home or with your community.
Food; there will be street food on hand all day from a sustainable street trader who makes delicious food, with minimal impact on the environment.
At Timberland we believe that nature needs heroes. Studies actually show that green spaces in urban communities help improve individual wellbeing and strengthen communities. Outdoor spaces tend to lower stress, improve productivity and promote community connection. As a brand rooted in the outdoors, we think everyone should have access to green space in one way or another.https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e...
