Multiple Exposure and Pep Ventosa Style Effects
Many cameras support the option to create Multiple Exposure, but some don’t. I love multiple exposures – perhaps you just want to overlay two images to give a sense of mood or memory. Are you seeking to create something very abstract – lots of angular buildings overlaid which blend the dark and light parts to create something very graphical. Or are you going for the more ethereal result that Pep Ventosa is famous for, or have you seen examples where the photographer tells you they used ‘In the round’
A multiple exposure created in Photoshop is two or more layers interacting with each other, blended together with opacity and blend modes. Cameras that create multiple exposure offer you up to four blend modes, Photoshop offers you 27.
So if you can’t do multiple exposure in camera or you would rather take a more measured approach and bring all your pictures home and then start layering and stacking them up, I’ll guide you through a myriad of processes to create your own unique Multiple Exposure. You will learn:
- How you stack up those layers creates the Multiple Exposure effect
- Which blend mode you use between the layer decides which parts of an image are visible
- Pep Ventosa is a particular style – also known as “In the Round” – I’ll show you how to do this in Photoshop
- We’ll make abstracts – after all we are playing with abstraction here.
- And is there any difference between a Multiple Exposure and a composite? Not really, it’s all to do with your intention.
We continue to help you in your learning – as an attendee of this workshop you are invited to an open workshop along with delegates from our other creative workshops – come and chat informally, ask question, get some more help, show your work, just drop in to listen or learn.
