Naomi Wood will be reading from and talking about Mrs. Hemingway in the café of the Dalston store. She will also be taking your questions and signing copies.
Mrs Hemingwaytells the story of how it was to love – and be loved by – the most famous writer of his generation. Set against the backdrop of bohemian Paris in the 1920s to 1960s Cold War America, Mrs Hemingway is narrated by Ernest Hemingway’s four wives: Hadley, Pauline, Martha and Mary.
If that wasn't enough, Beyond Retro's own archivist Bea *** will also be taking you on a journey through the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s with gorgeous clothes from the archives and explanations on how fashion may have influenced the four extraordinary women featured in the novel.
Tickets are free but limited. To secure your place please RSVP!
In the dazzling summer of 1926, Ernest Hemingway and his wife Hadley travel from their home in Paris to a villa in the south of France. They swim, play bridge, drink gin, have parties – and everywhere they go they are accompanied by the glamorous, irrepressible Fife. She is also Ernest’s lover.
Hadley is the first Mrs Hemingway, but neither she nor Fife will be the last. Over the ensuing decades, Ernest’s literary career will blaze a trail but threaten to overpower him, and his marriages will be ignited by desire and deceit. Four extraordinary women will learn what it means to love the most famous writer of his generation. Each will see him as no other has before and be forced to ask herself how far she would go to remain his wife...
‘Beautifully written. I could not put it down.’ Jojo Moyes
