    Description

Please notice that there will be two performances at 1.30pm and a second performance at 3.00 pm

‘Mr & Mrs Hake and the Magic Princess Fish,’ is a children’s opera! It is based on the folk story of ‘The Fisherman and his wife,’ by the Grimm Brothers.

This is a collaborative work written by Maria Haik Escudero and composed by the pianist Eralys Fernandez. In essence, it is a mini opera for mini people! The target audience is children from 4 and above.
Our first performance was at the Arts Depot Theatre in North Finchley, London in August 2019. We are delighted now to have performed here in Woking.
The opera consists of three opera singers and a pianist namely Eralys who plays throughout.
The opera singers are Simon Wilson - Baritone, Natalka Pasicznyk - Soprano and Chloe Ewings - Mezzo Soprano. They collectively have extensive experience in singing opera and teaching.

    Synopsis:
Mr & Mrs Hake are happily married in their modest and humble home. One day, Mr Hake goes fishing at the nearby lough and catches a magic princess fish. She begs Mr Hake to release her into the lake and explains she is a magic fish. Mr Hake let’s her go.
Upon returning home, Mrs Hake is very disappointed that Mr Hake has returned home without a nice piece of fish for supper. When Mr Hake explains why he let the large fish go that he caught, Mrs Hake has an idea…
Mrs Hake sends Mr Hake to the lough to request a wish for ‘just a little bit more,’ eg: fancy clothes, jewels, flowers. The magic fish obliges and grants the wish, after all Mr Hake did save her life. However, Mrs Hake becomes greedier and demands more and more until she requests too much and wishes to be god almighty. The magic princess fish will grant no more wishes, she is furious with their demanding, greedy and all consuming selves! The magic princess fish calls upon them both to reckon with their true desires and demands. Mr and Mrs Hake realise their mistakes and learn to be happy with what they have which is each other!
