    Description

RECLAIM YOUR BRAIN ... BRING YOUR BABY!

Babble Talks are daytime TED-style talks for parents, not about parenting. For parents and carers with babies under 1 year old.

    Motherhood Before Nationalism
The Ottoman Empire (1299-1923) encompassed millions of people of different ethnicities, languages and religions in an era before the nation state. Inspired by her own mother's heritage, Alev discusses the importance of the family unit and matriarchy in the Ottoman world - from the Jewish and Muslim "milk siblings" of pre-20th century Jerusalem to the Sultan's concubines competing to produce a first-born son.

Alev Scott was born in London to a Turkish mother and British father. She moved to Istanbul in January 2011 to cover Turkish politics for the British press. She published her first book, "Turkish Awakening" in 2014 and now lives between Athens and London, writing about Greece and other topics for publications including the Financial Times and the Times Literary Supplement.

    FAQ

    • I have not received my Motherhood Before Nationalism ticket via email. What should I do?

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your Motherhood Before Nationalism tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. Alternatively, you can always find your Motherhood Before Nationalism tickets in your Billetto account that you can access in the browsers or the dedicated Billetto app. For more help with this, read here.

    • I wish to cancel my Motherhood Before Nationalism ticket and receive a refund. What should I do?

The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you. To get in touch with the event organiser, simply reply to your order confirmation email or use the "Contact organiser" form on the organiser's profile. For more help with this, read here.

    • I have registered on the Motherhood Before Nationalism waiting list, what happens now?

    • Where do I find a link to an online event?

Check your order confirmation page or order confirmation email. Usually, the organiser of the event provides the details in the order confirmation email or they might send you a follow-up email with a link to their online event. You might also want to read the event description on Billetto where an event organiser should describe how to join the Motherhood Before Nationalism event online.
