New sites of curatorial practice

Do alternative sites make alternative curatorial practices? Traditionally working in museums, curators now operate in a wide range of contexts. From publications to online spaces, galleries, festivals and regeneration platforms, the sites of production of curatorial practice expand at a very fast pace. This panel brings together two curators, Ligaya Salazar and Meneesha Kellay, whose work plays with alternative places for the consumption of design culture.

Ligaya Salazar is a curator and commissioner whose work focuses on contemporary design, fashion and graphics. She has been the Director of Fashion Space Gallery, London College of Fashion since 2013. Working as a Curator of Contemporary Programmes at the V&A from 2005-13, she curated the contemporary exhibitions Memory Palace in 2013, Yohji Yamamoto in 2011 and Fashion V Sport in 2008 for which she also edited the accompanying publications. She devised the V&A Friday Late programme from 2008–10 and a series of V&A Friday Late events at Wanderlust in Paris in 2012. As an independent curator and advisor, she continues to curate the East London Comics and Arts Festival. She writes regularly on contemporary design and fashion, and is Contributing Editor to Varoom magazine.Meneesha Kellay is an architecture curator whose work focuses on public programmes dedicated to contemporary architectural culture: exhibitions, installations, talks, panel discussions, late events and tours. She recently delivered the RIBA Regent Street Windows 2016 project and accompanying events programme, and is also the Talks and Public Programmes Manager at RIBA. Previously, she was the events and exhibitions curator at Museum of Architecture, delivered Open House London in 2014 and was the Assistant Director of AA Night School at the Architectural Association. As an independent curator and adviser, she has worked with the curators of the Baltic Pavilion for the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016 and with Fashion Space Gallery in 2014. She is a regular visiting critic at architecture and art schools across London.
