MANIC with special guest: ELZ
Written and performed by Raina Greifer
Directed by Pippa Thornton
Winner of Best Solo Show at FUSE International 2022
When Raina arrives at her spoken word gig to see her exes in the audience, all the questions she's had about her past sexual experiences begin to surface. Through poetry, comedy, and one very awkward encounter with a cheese string, she begins to explore questions about bad sex, drunk sex, and the grey areas of consent.
Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heart-breaking, MANIC is a solo show that combines spoken word, puppetry, and theatre to ask whether it is possible to say you were violated without implicating a partner.
'A powerful yet harrowing experience, MANIC is an important addition to the conversation of sexual inequality.' (NSDF Noises Off)
'A challenging and multifaceted show with a figure of raw talent at its heart.' (**** Confessions of a Five Foot Two Actress)
‘Astonishing moments of word play, startling metaphor and poetic story telling drip and drop throughout’ (**** Bath Fringe Hub)
Contains discussions of sexual assault, and strong language. For a full list of content warnings, please click here.
With Special guest
ELZ is a multidisciplinary performer: a gossip, poet, comic and hailing from Thanet. Since cutting her teeth on the spoken word circuit in 2018, ELZ has headlined and won multiple slam poetry nights, including competing in the finals of the Kent Slam Championships. She has received mentoring from Apple and Snakes and was longlisted for the New Voice in Poetry award 2020. She's run her own night, “Babeslam”, in Margate since 2019, and often comperes and hosts gigs. A true show girl, ELZ’s work is a firework display of sexuality, neurodiversity and wide eyed wonder at this silly little world we live in.
