A combination of art, meditation and asana practice.

Mandalas evolved as an ancient images used for meditation. They exist as drawings, paintings, sculptures and can also be seen in the design of ancient buildings. They are still created and used in many diverse forms today.

The first part of the workshop will teach you how to draw the ‘path’ of a mandala to guide you though a personal meditation. You don’t need to be an artist! Many mandalas are a simple diagram of circles, triangles and squares. At certain points you may wish to add a word or symbol which has personal meaning and will establish an anchor point on your journey from the outer edge of the image to the centre. This journey parallels the shift of focused awareness towards spiritual heart of the practice. Moving from a headspace full of chitta vritti or ‘mind chatter’ to a single-pointed focus of greater clarity and stillness in the thoughts, guided by the breathing practice (pranayama).

The second part of the workshop will be a meditation to embody the path within the drawing, setting a personal intention for a slow-flow sequence of yoga poses which form the third part of the workshop. Here we create a practice as a moving meditation.

As the workshop date is close to Christmas (Sunday 11th December) there is a special offer price for this workshop of £20 each if you bring a friend as a Christmas ‘gift’ for them. The mandala that you take home with you is a lovely gift for yourself - an image you can keep close to continue to use for your meditation and practice following on from the workshop.

Materials will be provided and beautiful images can be created with very simple techniques. Amanda (who is also a trained artist) will guide you through the drawing process and provide a presentation frame-mount for your image.

This workshop is a wonderful way to explore and express your creativity in combination with meditation and slow-flow practice.

All levels of yoga (and drawing!) practice welcome.
