Description
A night of short film, animation and documentary exploring real world issues and current affairs
Program of the night :
- Partitions – Vivek Vadoliya (5:01)
- In memory of the partition of India, 70 years ago, the film is a musical portrait of the thriving Punjabi community in London's Southall. The film looks to the past and the future, capturing both the younger and elderly members of the neighbourhood.
- War & Cheese – Ben Garfield (8:30)
- Sweet dreams are made of cheese. At least that’s the case for almost impossibly goofy Oleg Sirota, the star of Ben Garfield’s 9min documentary War & Cheese. A large dose of humour and a pinch of conflicting emotions are mixed together in this tale of high hopes and perseverance, so full of flavour and charm, it’s an experience to savour.
- Bringing Back Bodrik – Robert Glowacky (11:48)
- Bringing Back Bodrik is about the Slovak Čuvač, a livestock guard dog in the Tatra Mountains. The dogs have guarded the mountains for centuries, but the traditional techniques of keeping the čuvač have been forgotten by the shepherds. Predators, once pushed out hunting and habitat loss, are now making a comeback. Attacks on livestock are becoming more frequent and many methods of defense are failing . If Shepherds are to protect their sheep, they must look to the past for answers.
- Election Night – Ryan Scafuro (7:40)
- Can you remember where you were on the fateful night of November the 8th 2016.
INTERVAL
- Beneath The Vaal - Gagandeep Kalirai (3:03)
- The Sikh youths in modern day Britain face a lot of issues. An insight into the Sikh contribution during the war and how it effects our society today.
- Babe, I Hate To Go – Andrew Moir (18:24)
- Delroy is one of the millions of migrant workers in North America. Every year he leaves his home and family in Jamaica, to come to Canada for six months and work on a farm in order to provide for his family. Babe, I Hate To Go takes us on Delroy’s journey from bidding goodbye to his family to starting to work on the farm while dealing with some difficult news.
- State of Emergency Motherf*cker! – Francois Mercier (5:34)
- In a surrealistic society, maybe not so distant in the future, Samy and Mehdi meet up for kebabs to catch up on Samy’s Valentine’s Day exploits. State of Emergency Motherfucker!, a 5-minute comedy/parody viciously depicts an all too serious event in a funny, exaggerated and, ultimately, entertaining way, satirizing the expectation of violence that comes from being a persecuted minority.
