ALBUM LAUNCH | 4 WORLD PREMIERES | POP SET
Listenpony returns with its intimate and inimitable mix of new and old music! We're at the beautiful venue at Crypt on the Green Tuesday 12 May for a concert of solo and ensemble music and a pop set!
This time round we’re hosting Tamsin Waley-Cohen and The Hermes Experiment, and concluding with a secret pop set! (Mysterious, right?) Tamsin will be launching her new album SOLI with us, and The Hermes Experiment helps us explore the themes in that disc. With 4 world premieres by young composers, music from Bach, Bartok, Kurtag, George Benjamin, and a pop set from an young and up-and-coming band, we’ve got a lot to get excited about!
In her new album, Tamsin Waley-Cohen, 'a violinist of fearless intensity' (The Guardian), explores post-1944 solo repertoire. Bartók's Solo Sonata, an Everest of the violin repertoire, sits at the heart of this recording which also includes Penderecki's Cadenza, and miniatures by Carter, György Kurtág and George Benjamin. She’ll be performing selections from the CD throughout the evening.
The ‘barmy but brilliant’ (Classical Music Magazine) The Hermes Experiment is helping us explore the theme of Tamsin’s disc with established classics from their the solo repertoire, and brand new pieces written in response to Tamsin’s CD. The ensemble comprises four young professional musicians that are passionate about contemporary and experimental music, and are inspired to create something innovative and unique.
We have 4 world premieres for you in this concert! William Marsey, Josephine Stephenson, and Edwin Hillier are writing for The Hermes Experiment in various combinations, and Freya Waley-Cohen will be writing a piece for Tamsin. Each piece is a response to the music on Tamsin's disc.
