Welcome to “Under the Bonnet,” a series of 5 Lightroom workshops with Joe Houghton designed to demystify what goes on behind the scenes and help you get the most from your editing workflow. We’ll explore how to spec and set up your computer for Lightroom—because the right hardware and settings can dramatically improve speed and reliability, especially as your photo library grows.
Joe will also cover backup strategies: why regular backups are essential to protect your images and catalog, and practical ways to implement them. We’ll then dive into what really happens under Lightroom’s bonnet, explaining the purpose of those mysterious files in your Lightroom folder and why understanding the catalogue system matters for your workflow. Finally, we’ll show you how to make the most of your Adobe Photographer’s Plan, seamlessly integrating Lightroom Classic, Lightroom, and Lightroom Mobile so you can edit and organise your photos wherever you are at home or mobile.

Computers & storage. What specifications are needed these days to run Lightroom and other photo editing apps, and what are the best options for storage - on board or external, local or cloud based?
SATURDAY Oct 25 10 to 12pm
Backups: Backing up your data is ESSENTIAL as one day your computer drive will fail, so how can you secure your precious photos so that when this happens you have copies safe and able to be restored?
SATURDAY Nov 22 10 to 12pm
The Lightroom catalogue: This session will demystify just what the Lightroom catalogue is and how to make sure that you keep it in tip-top condition.
SATURDAY Jan 3 10 to 12pm
Using LR Classic with LR mobile: When you take out the Adobe subscription you get 2 versions of Lightroom - Classic (best for desktop use) and Lightroom Mobile (best for use on phones and tablets). This session explores how these 2 different apps work in tandem and how you can share photos between them.
SATURDAY Jan 31st 10 to 12pm
Lightroom masking techniques: The masks in Lightroom are some of the most powerful tools in this app. There are lots of tips and tricks to make using them easier and they give you amazing capabilities to target edits to just the areas of your image that need them.

3. Contact you at the end of the event for your feedback
By booking this event you are deemed to consent to this transfer of your data.
The event may be recorded and published. By joining the event you are deemed to consent to our making a recording of the event available online afterwards.
Cancellation Policy
It is inevitable, that occasionally an event will be postponed or cancelled for this or another reason beyond the RPS’s control. If an event is postponed we will transfer your booking to the rearranged event, with the option of a refund if the rescheduled date is not suitable for you. Occasionally an event may also be cancelled owing to a lack of bookings.
If an event is cancelled we will give you as much notice as we are able and any payment by you to the RPS in respect of the event is offered as a full refund. In the case of events cancelled because of a lack of interest, we will aim to give you as much notice as possible.

RPS Digital Imaging Group facilitate Online Workshops, on Processing in Photoshop, Lightroom. the Nik Suite, Topaz and Affinity. As well as encouraging the use of software in creative ways to create artistic photographic images.
