Description
Leyton Sixth Form NEU members host a social and fundraiser. Raising money for Medical Aid for Palestinians, LSC NEU welcome colleagues, friends, family and supporters for a night of live poetry, music and stand-up comedy, with talks from NEU reps and members of Palestine Solidarity Campaigns.
Featuring:
Tony D: Founding member of the legendary UK rap group, Poisonous Poets (alongside Lowkey, Reveal and others), 'Uncle Tone' later took the battle-rap scene by storm, becoming a 3x 'Don't Flop' UK battle-rap champion. Known for his slick wordplay and loveable swagger, he also works at a primary school in Waltham Forest.
Reload: West Midlands-raised, NW London resident, storyteller with an encyclopaedic rap knowledge, at home in many rap genres. LSC staff member!
Ivor Dembina: Jewish comic. 'What Dembina has successfully done is marry the narrative and the club set, the old and the contemporary, to create something special. ... At sixty-three, Dembina is in his prime" - Broadway Baby.
Somaye: With a voice that has been known to bring audiences to tears and extraordinary versatility on the tombak (Persian drum), Somaye’s music represents the fresh sound of the Iranian Diaspora, fusing East and West. Her powerful and emotive performances have been described as 'Nina Simone meets Bertolt Brecht'.
Sam Berkson: Poet published by Influx Press. According to Kae Tempest, "Sam's poetry is warm, honest and well crafted. He is a poet in the truest sense of the word."
