Coal Drops Yard, the Heatherwick Studio-designed shopping and restaurant district in London’s King’s Cross, invites the public to a curated series of events over the February half-term holiday. The programme is designed to inspire and engage young minds and includes mindful play sessions, installations, free events and in-store activations from 16th February to 25th February 2019.


MWFitness – Baby Bootcamp

Daily from 10:00am and Saturdays from 11:15am

Get fit with the kids in this family friendly workout session. Running every morning from 10am and 11.15 on Saturdays.

Wave-Field Illuminated Musical See Saws
31st January – 17th March

Create your own sound with Wave-Field, Variation F.  Created by The Lateral Office and CS Design with soundscape by Mitchell Akiyama the illuminated musical seesaws which thrum with sound when they are at rest, and burst into a symphony of sound when in motion. Bring friends, or join in with others, the unique music grows in intensity when more people are involved. Illuminated musical seesaws…if that doesn’t bring out your inner child then nothing will.

Daily throughout half-term

Dotted around the yards are lots of drawing and craft stations. Come make something fun.

STORE Store Workshop: Slime!!

Monday 18th February – Sunday 24th February, 10:00am 5:00pm for kids from 6-12 years old

Create your own slime using weird and bizarre ingredients. Test your creation on our giant slime wall.

STORE Store Workshop: Ocarina Workshop

Wednesday 20th February, 1:30 5:00pm for kids from 6-12 years old

Create your own ocarina (musical instrument) out of clay, in these hands on workshops for the whole family. Run by Milan Tarascas, learn about the origins of these instruments and have a play yourself.

STORE Store Workshop: Natural Dyeing Workshop

Thursday 21st February, 1:30 5:00pm for kids from 6-12 years old

Get hands on dyeing with natural dyes on big table cloths with a colour pallet from coal drops yard, (coal, soil, ingredient from the restaurants, coffee from the coffee shop and so on) Run by Claire Miller.

STORE Store Workshop: Bricklayer Workshop

Friday 22nd February, 1:30 5:00pm for kids from 8-12 years old

The humble brick is elevated to amazing art in this great workshop. Learn how to build air bricks and coloured mortar. Run by Kevin Green.

KX Play
Daily throughout half-term

For younger children there’s KX Play; expect to see a rainbow of colours and fairy wings as children get creative during playtime with the daily activity group which is run by experienced play workers at the Crossing Space. Monday 18th February & Tuesday 19th February, 11:00am 1:00pm

Jenny Scott from Mothers Meeting will be running inspiring workshops for mums. Grab a cup of tea, sit back, be inspired and let the kids run loose on the soft play.
