Leo Richardson Quartet - Leading Jazz Tenor Saxophonist

The Hampstead Jazz Club is thrilled and proud to add Leo Richardson to our family of resident Artists, returning to the Club following multiple sell out shows in 2019. Leo Richardson will perform his contemporary hard-bop jazz style as part of his accomplished quartet!

Leo Richardson is widely recognised to be one of London’s leading Jazz Tenor Saxophonists. He is best known for his honest, straight-head, contemporary hard-bop style and regularly hosts the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club with his own quartet.

His most significant influences include John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Dexter Gordon, Horace Silver and Art Blakey.

“I can’t remember hearing a more impressive debut

"The style is hard bop, but music as good as this is beyond category."

    Dave Gelly, The Observer 5*

"When I heard this album my immediate thought was that all bets are off regarding the CD of the Year.”

    Lance Liddle, Bebop Spoken Here

Leo’s quartet consists of killer artists who are all standouts in their own right. Rick Simpson, winner of the Yamaha Scholarship Prize for Outstanding Jazz Musicians, resides on piano. Tim Thornton, one of the most sought-after young musicians of his generation, drives a hugely vibrant, powerful double bass. And, in keeping with the talent in this line-up, the exceedingly diverse Ed Richardson rounds things off on drums.

Line up for the evening is:

    Leo Richardson - Sax

    Rick Simpson - Piano

    Tim Thornton - Bass

    Ed Richardson - Drums
