Lebanon is one of the oldest wine making countries in the world and the country that gave the Greeks and the Romans their wine culture thanks to the powerful Phoenician trading fleets that plied their trade across the Mediterranean nearly 4000 years ago. In the last hundred years the country has witnessed the fall of the Ottoman Empire, experienced life in the post WWI French Mandate era and still endures the constant upheaval of the modern Middle East. But despite all these challenges, it’s wines are considered the finest in the region and Boisdale has teamed up with award-winning, Lebanese wine writer Michael Karam to host a historic evening of old and new Lebanese wines from seven of the country’s leading producers, paired with a Boisdale menu, specially created for the occasion.
Michael travels the world spreading the Lebanese wine gospel, which he does with knowledge and passion. The dinner will feature a range of carefully selected white and red blends, featuring 15 grape varieties (including the indigenous white Obeideh) from the Bekaa Valley and the northern region of Batroun, rounded off with a selection of rare and old eaux de vie. So join us for a unique evening with wines that express the power and beauty of one of the world’s oldest wine growing regions.
Complementing the wines will be a gastronomic menu created by Andrew Donovan head chef of Boisdale of Canary Wharf.
