Award-winning Chilean ‘payadora’, folk singer-songwriter and ‘décima’ poet, Fabiola González, aka La Chinganera, has the traditional folk songs of rural Chile running through her veins. Her heritage is similar to that of such greats as Violeta Parra and Víctor Jara, and it shows in the mastery of her music-making. Historically, many Spaniards made Biobío and Ñuble, central Chile, their home and brought not only their language but also their poetry and songs. With guitar in hand, La Chinganera explores the wealth of the folk tradition of her homeland, with its Spanish origins and Latin American finishes. La Chinganera takes her name from the ‘chinganas’, festive gatherings in villages and on the edges of towns, but her renown extends far wider than the confines of rural Chile, across Latin America, where she has toured (including Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Mexico and Cuba). She regularly performs and presents on Chilean television, runs workshops and masterclasses and artistically contributes to theatre. ‘Hija natural’ is her third album and this London gig is one stop in her European tour. She will be joined by Alvaro Alvayay on accordion, and special guests.

The Finnish Church is open all afternoon and has an unlicensed cafe serving Finnish snacks and hot and cold drinks. The closest station is Rotherhithe.  Doors to the performance space will open at 6.30pm.  The church has good, accessible facilities.
