Kig Telynnek (Lyrical Flesh)
Tryg Verran, lyrical artist and PhD candidate, has been exploring relationships between lands and languages, people and places.
Last year, Tryg walked the coastal path from Plymouth to Lizard Point gathering lyrical matter by performing poems and songs every morning at sunrise. This performance emerges from that pilgrimage.
Tryg invokes the figure of a wild, weird poet as a way of investigating, what Paula Kramer calls “intermaterial confederations,” (2015). As a result of this, Tryg considers the generation of a lyric to be an environmental event. One of the implications of this approach, is that it might serve to exorcise potentially corrosive, para-romantic narratives of suffering from the discourse surrounding Cornish national identity.
Kig Telynnek, which features lyrical poems and songs written in a creole of the English and Kernewek languages, is a meditation on our collective responsibility to articulate alternative modes of ecological healing and being.
