Children's yoga is a holistic exercise that creates a healthy body and a peaceful mind.
Yoga helps children to:
Develop body awareness and learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way.
Build core strength and overall physical fitness.
Improve balance and coordination.
Manage stress through breathing, awareness, meditation and healthy movement.
Build concentration and focus. Increase attention span.
Increase their confidence and positive self image.
Feel part of a healthy, non competitive group.
During the session they will work through a series of postures that represent animals or nature through the use of visual cards, storytelling and games. This will be supported via Children Do Yoga by Jessica Wingate, Yoga For Children by Lisa Flynn and Yoga Pretzels. It is great fun and your child will learn a fantastic new skill.
Hello, my name is Karen. I have been practising yoga for over 20 years and am passionate about health and wellbeing. I am qualified as a Nursery Nurse, hold a BSC (Hons) degree in Psychology and Safeguarding Children qualifications. My career spans 30 years working with children to promote their emotional well being. I am currently employed part time by Portsmouth City Council as a Family Specialist Support Worker. I hold an enhanced DBS. During my career I have supported many children who suffer anxiety, worries or stress. This has inspired me to complete my teacher training course in children's yoga. I am passionate about promoting a discipline that encourages calm. So many children these days have anxiety and lead busy lives. Yoga encourages joy and a positive outlook. Yoga supports positive mental health in children. Research has shown that yoga improves both physical and mental health in school age children (ages 5-12) Yoga improves focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, classroom behaviour and reduces anxiety and stress.
