Kicking off our 2015 season we have:
Citing influences such as Velvet Underground, The Buzzcocks, The Kinks, The Pixes and The Stone Roses, Sisteray are a Brit-class 4 piece of distinction. Over the last two years, the Londoners have been catching the attention and imagination of music lovers up and down the UK. Capturing audiences with their enchanting live shows, filled with pure R'N'R hits.
"The idea behind Five Grand Stereo", says lead songwriter Chris Singleton, "is to take a 1970s band, shove them in a time machine, deposit them in 2014 and ask them to make a record about the world they find themselves in". The result: a darkly humorous and theatrical concept album (there's even a Greek chorus) about sex, money and missing David Bowie. Four-part harmonies, duelling guitars, raspy sax and above all, soaring melodies abound; classic artists like Marc Bolan, Brian Ferry, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed and the Thin White Duke himself are frequently referenced sonically, but put through Five Grand Stereo's proprietary blender to create some delightfully quirky results. Taking aim at everything from reality TV to sexism and from Page 3 to the 'Big Society', the band somehow manage to conjure up the sounds of 74...to take a pop at 2015. All while bashing some instantly memorable tunes into your eardrums.
Henrik Marstal and Anna Lidell make beautifully crafted, swoonsome nordic electronic dream pop. Hued from the landscape of Copenhagen, marstal:lidell take their cues from contemporaries such as Bat for Lashes, Beach House and Imogen Heap. Karousel Music is delighted to play host to their first UK show.
The Galleons are a six-piece Indie-Folk band from Brighton. Their melodic, spell-binding music cuts a dash between traditional British Folk and modern Indie. As at home playing in a candle-lit cellar as they are in a sunny festival field, their music takes the audience from catchy, foot stomping folk-rock, to mellow, mysterious lullabies and back.
