Description

John Smith has played to audiences all over the world in festival tents, living rooms and sold-out concert halls. He tours relentlessly with his guitars, looking to communicate through a song and to share something intangible with those willing to listen. His uniquely intimate take on love, loss or even a mythic murder ballad, combined with his innovative guitar work, have won him a loyal following.

John has opened shows for Iron and Wine, John Martyn, Tinariwen and Gil Scott-Heron, and has performed alongside the likes of Jackson Browne, Jerry Douglas, Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker and Rodney Crowell.

It’s all for the love of the guitar. John plays a rumbling acoustic fingerstyle but sometimes uses a slide or plays the guitar on his lap. His playing and honey-on-gravel vocals have brought crowds the world over to pin-drop silence and rapturous applause.

Growing up in a fishing town in the North-East of Scotland Wilson taught himself to play the guitar at the age of Fourteen. Following this he played in a string of local Scottish bands covering, rock, grunge, punk and metal before settling into the emerging roots singer-songwriter we know today. Throughout the past twenty years he has lived in the North-East, Central Belt and Highlands of Scotland, all the while collecting inspiration and experience for his art, music and expression. The result is a music that blends celtic guitar, folk, rock and roots with conscious themes and raw honest emotion, along with the ability to deliver heartfelt performances that are known for their sensitivity, passion and sheer power.

A definite character with a story to tell, Wilson brings his unique twist to the human condition and living as a Scottish man. Recurring themes in his music are: cultural awakening, identity, spirituality, commitment and freedom. He is a keen poet, as well as songwriter, composer and instrumentalist and has a writing career that spans since the mid nineties. Currently Wilson is working within the new musical landscape and taking on the many roles that this requires, he is commited to and working hard to create an independent and sustainable career within the music industries.
