    The Hampstead Jazz Club brings you a quartet of four of the top young jazz musicians in London to celebrate the music of one of the titans of the tenor Joe Henderson. This performance will span decades of a genius writer, with tunes from his earliest albums ‘Page One’, ‘Our Thing’, ‘In ‘n Out’ and ‘Mode for Joe’ to his live masterpiece ‘The State of the Tenor’.

    The four members of the quartet Manuel Filgueiras (drums), Oscar Ho (bass), Edgar Ho (piano) and Joe Mackley (saxophone) have performed at Ronnie Scott’s, The Vortex, The Spice of Life, Pizza Express Soho and Alfie’s Soho. Joining them is blazing trumpeter Dave Boraston, playing the role of Kenny Dohram and Lee Morgan.

    JOE MACKLEY

    Joe Mackley is a graduate from the Royal College of Music in 2022 with a first class honours degree in joint principle jazz and classical saxophone. Since then he has fully immersed himself in the London jazz scene, studying with some of the top saxophonists in the UK including Leo Richardson, Graeme Blevins and Mick Foster. Quickly becoming a sought after saxophonist, his playing brings together influences from Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson and Joshua Redman.

    EDGAR HO

    Edgar Ho, originally from Newcastle, studied at Chetham’s and is now based in London, pursuing a jazz degree at Guildhall. He’s played internationally, from Hong Kong to Japan. His playing is heavily inspired by the work of Bud Powell and Oscar Peterson.

    OSCAR HO

    Oscar Ho is a jazz bassist currently based in London. His musical journey began at the prestigious Chetham's School of Music, where he earned the "Ida Carroll Scholarship" and studied jazz and classical double bass under the mentorship of Steve Berry and Rachel Meerloo. Since moving to London, Oscar has established himself as one of the top players, having performed at venues such as the Vortex and Ronnie Scott's. While studying in London, he has worked with the likes of Norma Winstone and Scott Stroman, and studied under Steve Watts, Tom Farmer, and James Maddren.

    MANUEL FILGUEIRAS

    Manuel Filgueiras is a recently graduated drummer from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.A Portuguese native, he initiated his musical studies at the age of 11 later enrolling in ArtJ - School of Performing Arts, highly regarded as one of the leading schools for the arts in the country. Over the years Manuel has gathered experience in a vast array of musical genres such as Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Rock, Brazilian and Latin Music, having performed all over London as well as Portugal and Spain. He has participated in various records from as young as 21. Manuel also writes and teaches. Having been a drum instructor since the age of 18 he currently teaches at Hatcham College as well as privately and has lectured for Middlesex University.

    Please note, The Club is not licensed to allow access to Children under the age of 16 after 9pm, so for evening performances, please do not book tickets for children under the age of 16. Children aged 16 and above are welcome at any time.

    Please note the Jazz Club is situated in the basement of the Duke of Hamilton Pub and access is via a number of stairs. The nearest toilets are situated on the 1st floor of the Pub.
