Jo Harrop - Songs For The Late Hours

Jo Harrop is described as a "velvet voiced" singer, who is rising on the UK scene. Recently appearing at the Royal Albert Hall as part of London Jazz Festival 2018, and a regular at The 606 club, Pizza Express Jazz Club, The Hideaway, The Sage, headlining Scarborough Jazz Festival, and Burton Agnes Jazz and Blues Festival, amongst many other respected venues. Having started out as a singer/songwriter, including writing a song for Acoustic Alchemy’s album, Radio Contact, she was also a backing singer for several international stars, before establishing herself more recently as a singer on the jazz scene.

In 2018, Jo recorded her first album of jazz standards, "Songs For The Late Hours”, with talented upcoming young players, Harry Sankey, Will Barry and Joe Downard and is currently recording an album of duets with fellow geordie guiatrist Jamie McCredie, as well as performing a brand new show “Time & Place” at The Sage, Gateshead this summer, of original compostions written by North East pianist Paul Edis.

The album was influenced by the music of Anita O’Day, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone & Sarah Vaughan, and the band inspired by the Nat King Cole Trio.  Other projects include "British Standard Time" celebrating British Songwriters across the decades, and “Fever", a celebration of the music of diva Peggy Lee.

Drawing on jazz, blues, soul & folk infuences, Jo delivers a song with depth and feeling, in her distinct rich, warm & smokey tone, that swings oh so cool.

Jo is accompanied by award winning young pianist, Will Barry, Barney Kessel-esq guitarist, Harry Sankey, incredibly talented bassist, Joe Downard, and they are joined by very special guest, rising star, Alex Hitchcock on tenor saxophone. “This girl was born to sing jazz, all the warmth and sensibility to melt even the chilliest of hearts” Blues & Soul Magazine

“Harrop has Excellent tone and great stage prescence” - Marlbank

“Her voice is amazing, think Isaly whiskey, or tannin rich red wine - deep” Lance - Bebop Spoken Here

A night of swinging jazz songs and tender ballads from Jo & her cool band, in the perfect setting of the intimate Hampstead Jazz Club.
