Jo Harrop presents sensational pianist and Hammond organ player, Paul Moran (known for his work with names such as, Van Morrison/ Natalie Cole /Tom Jones/ George Michael) on July 11th in the intimacy of Hampstead Jazz Club.
Jo and Paul come together with bassist Paul Carmichael, (Allan Holdsworth/ Gary Husband) for a rare special evening, to play a set of firey groovy blues, intimate soul and cool jazz.
PAUL MORAN
Paul Moran has been a ‘first call’ session musician for many producers and celebrity artists since 1989, when he first arrived on the London scene and is now regarded as a keyboard giant. He is most famous for the release of the album 'Smokin’ B3', a funky, Hammond organ- based album. His more recent release, 'Smokin’ B3 Vol 2', tips its hat to the 1960’s cool style of Jimmy Smith and Richard ‘Groove’ Holmes.
Paul is currently Musical Director to Van Morrison, playing piano/Hammond organ, Synths/trumpet & Flugel Horn, having directed recent live concerts such as ‘Jazz at Montreux’ and the ‘Royal Albert Hall’ as well as recent recording dates with Van Morrison.
Moran’s prolific abilities have brought him concert and recording work (UK and worldwide) with an array of artists as diverse and impressive as: Van Morrison, Natalie Cole, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Tom Jones, George Michael, Jos Stone, Mavis Staples, Bette Midler, Sister Sledge, Clare Teal, Mark Knopfler, Tony Hadley, Candy Dulfer, Rick Astley, The Drifters, Cilla Black, Gilbert O’ Sullivan, Chris Norman, Joe Walsh, Wishbone Ash, Marcella Detroit, Irene Cara, Michael Ball, Buddy Greco, Elaine Delmar, Maceo Parker (Montreux Jazz Festival), Chrissie Hynde, Jools Holland. They are a few of the many whom appreciate Paul for his sensational skills as a keyboard player, accomplished jazz musician and orchestrator.
Jimmy McGriff, in his sleeve notes for the first album ‘Smokin’ B3 Vol 1’, called Moran “the real deal.......”
Grady Harp, the Amazon critic clearly agrees in his review of ‘Smokin’ B3 Vol 2’- “Whatever your tastes Paul Moran satisfies. Volume 2 is just as classy as Volume 1”
Paul’s latest release, ‘Aurora 5’ Ibiza Chill Vol 1’ sees Moran go back to his club music roots. Influenced by jazz, world music, funk and downtempo dance grooves, this is some of the finest club chill lounge music you will hear.
"Each band member maintained poise throughout the set, and Moran obviously understood Morrison in terms of tempo shifts. Moranʼs accompaniment throughout was just right for the context of the show, and his keyboard playing shined on the later organ sections." - Downbeat Magazine
