Make a unique small vase from Jesmonite with Phil Cuttance, using his casting technique. Each participant has the opportunity to conceive and cast their own truly unique vase, no two vases are ever the same.
You will choose from 6 different vase shapes, assemble your own mould, and then mix and cast your own vase in your own unique colour scheme, marbled effects etc.
No previous craft or art experience necessary. Every step in the process is safe and demonstrated beforehand. All materials and processes used in the workshop are safe, and the materials used are non-toxic and VOC free.
London based designer Phil Cuttance from New Zealand, has a degree in Industrial design. After graduating, he worked as a furniture maker and then designer for several years. He now runs his own design practice in Crouch Hill, making a range of handmade objects and commissioned pieces.
He is interested in creating objects whose form, often detailed and visually complex, belies the hand-made, lo-fi processes by which they are created. On closer inspection the objects often reveal small imperfections, which are a result of the process and communicate the hand-made nature of the piece. Some of his objects are often assumed to be 3D printed, or done with a CNC router, but don’t be fooled they are all handmade!
The workshop is open to a maximum of 10 participants (age 16+) on a first come, first served basis. Attendance at the workshop costs £35 (£25 students) with all proceeds supporting the SCHOOL SCHOOL after school club for local state school students.
