INTERSTELLAR FOOD DRIVE PRESENTED BY STRONG ISLAND RECORDINGS, VELVET CANDY & CROCODILE NIGHTMARES IN SUPPORT OF PORTSMOUTH FOOD BANK.
On August 11 Strong Island Recordings, Velvet Candy and Crocodile Nightmares join forces to present ‘Interstellar Food Drive’ a cosmic celebration of sounds from the leftfield spectrum that will be taking place at The Dockyard Club and Coastguard Studios in Southsea, Portsmouth in support of Portsmouth Food Bank. The first wave for the all-dayer, mini-festival is Portsmouth's very own psych-lords and one of the finest live acts in the country right now being Melt Dunes. Other acts joining the psych-fiends include Kissability Records/Kitsuné’s indie-psych-pop outfit Sad Palace, Brighton’s garage-psych rock’n’roll duo Skinny Milk who also feature in Castle Face Records’ Male Gaze live band fresh from supporting Oh Sees on their UK tour, trippy psych quintet Number 9 who channel the likes of The Beatles with Brian Jonestown Massacre and much more to be announced. In these testing times of cuts, food poverty is sadly on the rise with Tussel Trust stating that 1,182,954 people used three day emergencies packages between April 1 2016 and March 31 2017 and a staggering 1 in 5 people in the U.K are living below the poverty line whilst a recent reports in the BBC of the rise of food poverty has reports of children filling their pockets with food at schools. Because of this crisis, Strong Island Recordings, Velvet Candy and Crocodile Nightmares have created ‘Interstellar Food Drive’ featuring some of the finest experimental bands and artists across the south all coming together to help combat food poverty on a local, grassroots level. On top of the handful of psychedelic heavyweights, Velvet Candy will be turning both venues into a kaleidoscopic cavern with their illuminating liquid light show and the ‘Interstellar Foodbank Drive’ will feature an arts exhibition featuring talented graphic designers on top of a veggie BBQ where all profits from the BBQ will also be going towards Portsmouth Food Bank.
