Description

The Independent Review of Prevent is reviewing the Government’s strategy for supporting people vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism and making recommendations for a future approach.

The Independent Reviewer of Prevent, William Shawcross, wants to hear from as wide a range of people as possible to help inform his final report, and is holding an event to allow people in the North of England to share their views with him.

This event is your opportunity to have your say on Prevent and inform the recommendations the Review will make to the Government. We are particularly interested to hear your views on the following questions:

  • What is the impact of Prevent on individuals, families and communities?
  • What are the criticisms and complaints about Prevent?
  • Is Prevent tackling the causes of radicalisation?
  • Should there be a strategy aimed at supporting those vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism and what should it look like?

We will be contacting all registered attendees before the event to ask if you would like to submit comments in response to the above questions.

Data notice - How will the information I give you be used?

Thank you for agreeing to attend this event in July 2021. The meeting will help to inform the Independent Review of Prevent and will help gather evidence to formulate any recommendations the Reviewer considers necessary.

Attendance is completely voluntary, but it is also a good chance to have your say. Most importantly, we would like to reassure you that anything you do say to us will be completely confidential and we will ensure it cannot be traced back to you personally. We will not publish any quotes or identifying details without your permission.

Notes of any engagement will be taken at each event. These notes will be part of the evidence base for the Review. Information relevant to answering the Terms of Reference may be used by the Reviewer as evidence for the report. Notes will be stored securely and can only be accessed by the Review team. All members of the team are subject to the Official Secrets Act and the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Your input into the Review is anonymous. Where individuals or organisations provide responses or evidence, we may publish these responses, in full or in part. We will not publish the names or identifying information of individual respondents unless we received their permission to be named.

At the end of the Review, after the Review’s evidence has been anonymised, the Review may pass the anonymised evidence to the Home Office to inform their policy making.

We also have a privacy notice that details how we handle your information. Our privacy notice can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/independent-review-of-prevent-privacy-notice

If, at any time, you no longer wish to take part, please contact by enquiries@preventreview.independent.gov.uk by 31 August 2021. We will remove your details and you will not be contacted again.

If you would like more information about the Review, please visit the Independent Review of Prevent website at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/independent-review-of-prevent

FAQ

  • I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?

The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. Alternatively, you can always find your tickets in your Billetto account that you can access in the browsers or the dedicated Billetto app. For more help with this, read here.

  • I wish to cancel my ticket and receive a refund. What should I do?

The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you. To get in touch with the event organiser, simply reply to your order confirmation email or use the "Contact organiser" form on the organiser's profile. For more help with this, read here.

  • I have registered on the waiting list, what happens now?

If more tickets become available you will be notified (by email) amongst others who have joined the list. Purchasing is on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, read here.

  • Where do I find a link to an online event?

Check your order confirmation page or order confirmation email. Usually, the organiser of the event provides the details in the order confirmation email or they might send you a follow-up email with a link to their online event. You might also want to read the event description on Billetto where an event organiser should describe how to join the event online. For more information on this, read here.

  • What is refund protection and why would I need it?

Refund Protection provides you with the assurance that if unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances interfere with your ability to attend an event you can claim a refund. For more information on this, read here.
