Lose yourself in the soulful world of singer-songwriter Tawiah’s poignant second album, Ertha, created in collaboration with artist Al Moore.
Ertha, a concept album created through a process of storytelling and musical interpretation, is the result of a timeless collaboration between the two artists, where Tawiah composed music in response to a series of original writings and poems by Moore.
They tell a story of the human journey as one of ‘getting lost in order to be found’; despite unavoidable suffering there is great hope, and it is by navigating darkness that we find light.
The album illustrates Ertha’s life from birth to death – a universal story – and we hear also from the ever-present, objective universe.
Through this process, which Tawiah and Moore liken as ‘similar to an actor and director working with a script’, the outcome is a cohesive musical story as opposed to simply tracks on an album.
Ertha, written and recorded during the Covid-19 lockdown, is set for release later this year.
In late 2019, Tawiah released her debut album, Starts Again. Previously, she released two EPs: In Jodi’s Bedroom and Recreate, which she toured with Moses Sumney. Tawiah has worked in collaboration with artists including Dev Hynes, Kindness, Mark Ronson, The Cinematic Orchestra and Kano, and is a composer for film and TV. Tawiah joined Michael Kiwanuka on his UK tour in May 2022, previewing her new album Ertha.
Al Moore is an artist and writer; she creates conceptual worlds within which we can challenge ideas and experience self. With a background in cultivating creative and safe spaces in her communities, Moore continues to explore the idea that the physical and theoretical spaces we inhabit can be enabling and healing.
