    Description

Improv for Anxiety: Laugh in the Face of Fear with Peter Kershaw

When I look back, without realising it, I have had a tendency towards anxiety for as long as I can remember. I remember being sometimes physically frozen or being so rushed that I hardly paid attention to what I was doing. Being overwhelmed by anxiety can affect all areas of life, including our relationship in and out of work. It’s easy to get into the habit of avoiding things, to keep those anxious feelings at bay.

One of the many things that helped me enormously with getting to grips with anxiety, developing confidence and acceptance of myself, was improvisation. I quickly discovered that it wasn’t about trying to be ‘good’. I got most out of it when I just gave myself permission to just enjoy and embrace the whole experience. Improvisation has taught me so much more than I could ever imagine it would.

I am so pleased that Nat has asked to me join him in teaching at The School of Laughter. Having fun is vital to our physical and emotional wellbeing. Fun and laughter is a serious business! Research tells us that learning in a playful environment is important when learning new skills.

I have worked as a counsellor. I also coach and teach mindfulness based skills for life. We have a one off session on 23rd August, followed by an exciting 8 week course in October. You’ll have the opportunity to connect with like minded people as well as learning skills for life and of course having great fun.

The learning on the course will be way of a mixture of games, exercises, scenes and attention and mindfulness based practices. Each class runs for around 2 hours. You will be working in groups and pairs. You will also receive individual feedback and coaching. By the end of the course you will have learnt to improvise for fun and in life. You will learn to respond rather than react to life’s events with a greater sense of ease and confidence. You might not be able to stop all of life’s waves, but at least learn to surf them! No previous experience of improvisation is required. All you need is a sense of enthusiasm and curiosity. If you’re not sure that you do, come along, it’s
    contagious....
