    Description

    Arpeggyeo presents

    Ignaz Friedman's Blagdonian Phantasmagoria

Tony Lais and Rowan Vince play some hot piano in a one off reunion recital.

Picturesque Spanish melodies by Albéniz, Chopin's epic Polonaise in F# minor, the suspected English premierre of Ignaz Friedman's Mazurkas op. 15, Schumann's ethereal Fantasie op. 17 and a divine four hands sonata by Mozart.

This concert is a celebration of both romantic era piano at it's finest and a chance meeting of two old buddies a world away from home.

    Schumann - Fantasie Op. 17
    Chopin
    - Polonaise No. 5 in F# minor
    Albéniz
    - Evocation/Asturias/Triana
    Mozart
    - Sonata for Four Hands
    Ignaz Friedman
    - Mazurkas Op. 15 (Suspected UK Première)

Rowan has lived in Blagdon for eight years terrorising the neighborhood with his incessant prestidigitation while Tony has been touring Japan, Korea and China where he now lives. We're lucky enough to have him in the UK for a year as he completes a masters in music performance at Durham University.

Performed in the gorgeous acoustic of St Andrew's, Blagdon, the music has been carefully curated to transport the soul on an uplifting journey through the intense affectation of individual emotion so revered by romantic era artists.

The alluring melodies of Albéniz draw the listener into a contemplative hypnosis, ready to receive what we suspect is the UK premiere of Ignaz Friedman's Mazurkas.

Friedman himself was famous for his interpretations of Chopin but his own music is little heard and we have been unable to locate recordings or evidence of any British performance. They are masterpieces in their own right, and are followed by the F# minor Polonaise by Chopin himself, the acclaimed poet of the piano.

An interval during which prosecco is served provides a brief return to earth before Schumann's intensely affecting Fantasie is performed in it's entirety. The Fantasie is said to reflect the life of Beethoven, but more likely reflects Schumann's emotion on being parted from his wife to be, Clara Wieck. Clara would perform the piece in public for the first time ten years after Schumann's death.

The concert concludes with a refreshing vision of the divine for four hands, courtesy of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

All ages are welcome at this unmissable event.
