    Description

Ice to Athelstan is a book that “joins the dots” from the ice melt in 10,000 BCE to the Emergence of England and its first king, 1100 years ago. Author Charles Boundy will survey the fascinating path from the last Ice Age to the coronation of Athelstan in Kingston, concentrating on key turning points in prehistory, the advent and retreat of the Romans, the rise of the Anglo-Saxons, the importance of Christianity, and especially the turning of the tide by King Alfred and his family against the Vikings in the consolidation of Wessex, Mercia and, ultimately, England. As we celebrate Kingston 2025 and remember Athelstan, Charles Boundy will provide us with the context for our festivities.

6:30pm meet and greet with the talk starting promptly at 7pm and lasting approximately one hour
