I Will Touch You
A concert by Giuseppe Bassi at the double bass and Sumire Kuribayashi at the piano
The double bass player Giuseppe Bassi presents the new album I will touch you (winner, JazzIt Awards 2021), published by Doppio Sugo Records, co-written with the pianist Sumire Kuribayashi, considered one of the greatest talents on the Japanese jazz scene. The album was created in the period of the pandemic, during which the two musicians were forced to cancel their European tour for the presentation of Atomic Bass, the musical story of a double bass reaching the places destroyed by the tsunami and devastated by radiation for the explosion of the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Sumire managed to get back to Japan in March 2020 and the two musicians started a daily collaboration, where Sumire would send Giuseppe the new music she lovingly composed, sometimes recorded on her mobile phone, so that he could add his double bass and they could keep playing together. They kept doing that for about seven months, every day live on Facebook, with an audience of family members and soft toys. Part of that music has been selected for the album, which alternates moments of joy with those of melancholy and celebrates a true friendship and a deep affection that no distance can threaten.
