A unique film festival that shows award-winning global films about the Other and inspire and empower ordinary people and filmmakers to be the change they seek.
A powerful celebration of impactful dramas, documentaries, animations and short films from across the world that highlight key societal issues such as war, poverty, violence and racism as well as music, creativity and the power of ordinary people to overcome extraordinary circumstances.
Each screening followed by an inspirational Q&A with Directors, Other Filmmakers, Country Ambassadors, subject matter experts and high profile community leaders
Thurs. 30th Aug 6.30pm - 'The Extrovert' SCREENING AND Q&A
Thomas wakes up one night in a hospital. He is disoriented, amnesic and unable to leave the ward, and the doctors act as if they can't hear him. He realises with terror that he is trapped in a coma and in an out of body experience, and agonizes as his wife decides to pull the plug on his life support. However, he meets two people who can speak to him- young Bera, who has her own secret struggle and the burdened and mysterious Father Peter. All three must brave the powers that be, both natural and supernatural, for any hope of saving Thomas.
Friday 1st Sept 6.30pm- 'Kingston Crossroads' SCREENING AND DIRECTOR Q&A.
A captivating and personal ramble through Kingston's contemporary roots reggae scene, featuring Kabaka Pyramid, Micah Shemaiah, Leroy Jah B' Smith, Earl Chinna' Smith, Luciano, Gabre Selassie, Matthias Roulecko, Exile Di Brave, Mau Mau and I Nation. Kingston Crossroads brilliantly tells the intimate stories of several fascinating characters whose lives intersect in the city. An exciting and intimate journey through one of the world's most diverse and controversial cities, with moving, intimate, personal life stories driven by various challenges. Different generations, roots music, repatriation to Africa, globalisation, poverty and a positive sight. A snapshot of Jamaicans current situation and society in a globalised world, told by Jamaicans.
Sat. 2nd Sept 6.30pm- 'Forgotten Man' SCREENING AND Q&A
A troubled young actor in an East London Theatre Company for the homeless romances a wealthy out-of-towner in the bustling streets of contemporary London. Forgotten Man tells the story of Carl, a troubled young writer and actor with a history of incarceration who performs in an East London Theatre Company for the homeless. When a performance of his new play ends with another actor assaulting an audience member, Carl, in the affluent attire from his play, escapes the theatre for the bustling streets of contemporary London. He meets Meredith, a wealthy out-of-towner who is in London for a funeral. Their sweet romance has Carl risking parol violation to pursue another life, but when Meredith invites Carl to see the play in which he is a lead actor, and the theatre erupts in violent conflict, Carl is found trapped between his desire and obligation.
Sunday 3rd Sept 2.30pm - UK Premiere 'Sweet Dillard' SCREENING AND DIRECTOR Q&A PLUS LIVE JAZZ.
An inspirational teacher uses jazz music to change a generation. Sweet Dillard follows several individual students and their families of one of the most successful high school jazz bands in the US and learn of the often very serious pressures many of them face while still determinedly showing up at every rehearsal to take their seat in the band. At the end of the year, they travel to New York City for the national championships, determined to make South Florida proud.
Sunday 3rd Sept 6.30pm - EU Premiere 'The Caged Bird' SCREENING AND Q&A WITH DIRECTOR and CHI-CHI NWANOKU.
This is the story of Florence B. Price the first African-American woman whose music was performed by major symphony orchestras. The story of a woman who refused to accept the limited aspirations that were expected of her race and gender, who would not be a caged bird.Ms Price also composed over 50 songs which were sung by the great Marian Anderson including the last song in Anderson's legendary Easter Sunday concert at the Lincoln Memorial in 1939. Florence Price was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. After an appalling lynching in Little Rock near her home, the Price family moved to Chicago and here she met and collaborated with important figures in the 'Black Renaissance' including Langston Hughes and Katherine Dunham. This documentary tells her life story with many recently discovered photos and also presents many fine performances of her music to underscore her accomplishments. Q&A with the Director James Greeson and Chi-chi Nwanoku MBE, founder of Chineke! Europe's first and only BME led orchestra. Chineke! will perform some of Ms Price's work after the Q&A.
Mon. 4th Sept 6.30pm - UK PREMIERE 'Trails of Hope and Terror' SCREENING AND Q&A.
Two teenage girls, Sandra and Josseline encounter the border (La Frontera), one by accident, and the other on purpose. But their journeys, along with the others we hear about in the film, began hundreds of years ago, as complicated political and economic strategies set up a vast system from which there is little hope of escape. Special attention is given to Manifest Destiny, the Mexican-American War, Gunboat Diplomacy, the Treaty Of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the creation of Banana Republics, the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the judicial procedure known as Operation Streamline, the border strategy known as Operation Gatekeeper, and the grassroots' resistant strategy employed by advocates for the undocumented known as the Sanctuary Movement.
Tues. 5th Sept 6.30pm - UK PEMIERE 'The 2 Sides Project' SCREENING AND Q&A.
The unforgettable journey of six Americans who lost fathers in the Vietnam War as they bridge the cultural, geographical and emotional divide between themselves and a group of Vietnamese sons and daughters whose fathers died fighting for the other side. Over 11 days, American and Vietnamese sons and daughters—who had all lost fathers during the war—met for the first time. The film captures the entire story, the transformative encounters, the profoundly moving experiences while visiting the sites where their fathers died, and the powerful encounters they had with the country itself.
Weds. 6th Sept 6.30pm - 'Stingray Sisters' SCREENING AND Q&A.
Don't be surprised if you fall in love with the Stingray Sisters. This is a young, contemporary perspective on an ancient world that has long been misunderstood. Stingray Sisters is a dramatic documentary set in a remote community. For the first time, this eye-opening film will give audiences unparalleled access to life in a remote Indigenous community through the eyes of three mixed race sisters who are community leaders in their own right following in the footsteps of their Aboriginal mother. Noni, Alice and Grace are moving, as they always have, between two cultures and two homes. Their communities face constant challenges that most of us will never know. But the Eather sisters and their extended community are about to take on their biggest battle yet. They received notice of an application to explore for oil or gas throughout Arnhem Land. They know that even with everything that's come before this, the threat of mining will be one of the biggest and most relentless challenges the community will ever face.

Friday 8th Sept 6.30pm - 'I am Still Here' SCREENING AND Q&A
10-year old Layla is stolen from her family and thrown into America’s child sex industry. Rescued after she was left for dead, she confronts the monsters of her past and embraces the hope of her future. Based on true stories of courage drawn from interviews with trafficking survivors, I AM STILL HERE puts a human face on the modern day atrocity of human sex trafficking in the West, especially the trafficking of children as young as five years, giving an inside look at the devastation these children face on a daily basis and the incredible power of friendship in the midst of adversity and of the will to live and to overcome.
Saturday 9th Sept 6.30pm - CLOSING GALA AWARD CEREMONY & COCKTAIL RECEPTION
A spectacular awards ceremony. Directors, producers, writers, actors, other filmmakers, community leaders, film-lovers and freedom fighters gather together to celebrate each other and 11 years of I Will Tell. Our closing gala is set to be an intimate and prestigious VIP finale. Awards Ceremony with visiting filmmakers from around the world followed by a reception with Live Jazz, Cocktails and Canapes at the VIVO Roof Gardens. Expect to getup close and personal with inspirational filmmakers and other world changers.
