ELVIE PUMP IS WORLD FIRST COMPLETELY SILENT BREAST PUMP THAT PROVIDES A SOLUTION TO 83.8% OF UK WOMEN
Award winning femtech brand Elvie unveils latest innovation and world first technology, Elvie Pump, bringing the breast pumping experience into the 21st century and giving time and independence back to new mums.
Elvie Pump provides a solution to the 83.8% of UK women surveyed in August 2018*, who have previously been prevented from doing something from their daily activities. This was due to their pump providing insufficient mobility, flexibility or being time intensive. Completely redesigned for modern lives, Elvie Pump makes it possible for women to pump on their own terms, changing the way they feel about breast pumping and encouraging more UK mums to continue breastfeeding.
The truly silent, wearable pump fits discreetly into a standard nursing bra, giving women the flexibility to go about their daily routine while pumping. No cords, no wardrobe changes, no fuss and instead connects to a free smartphone app with smart features. Automatically monitoring milk flow and tracking pumping sessions for each breast, the app gives women the option to control the pump from their phones, avoiding the need to fiddle with buttons on the pump inside their bra.
Choosing to breastfeed can mean pumping several times a day, for 20 minutes or more. And while breastfeeding is often touted as being cheaper than formula milk, a mother’s time certainly isn’t worth nothing. 33.3% of women said that it was the flexibility of formula that prevented them from even starting to breastfeed*. And 44.7% of women who did breastfeed their child found themselves in positions that has prevented them from pumping such as office meetings*.
The UK has one of the worst breastfeeding rates in the world, with nearly two thirds of women stopping before six months, often due to deterring social attitudes and reaching the end of maternity leave. Only 8% of UK women surveyed breastfed beyond 12 months*. These figures correlate to stalling health outcomes for babies and young children in several key areas, including obesity and life expectancy.
For women determined to produce enough breast milk for their babies, even after they return to work, a huge lack of innovation in this vital market has left many feeling both physically and psychologically tethered to their pumps with 15% saying work was the reason they stopped breastfeeding or feeding their baby breast milk*. Despite the frustration with noisy, labour-intensive and ugly breast pumps, mothers who choose this method have had no choice but to spend a significant amount of time each day using archaic technology to provide breast milk for their child.
Tania Boler, Founder and CEO of Elvie said: “Being a new mother can be incredibly stressful. We spoke to a lot of women about the struggles they experience post-pregnancy and it became obvious that outdated pumping technology was a real obstacle for women wanting to provide breast milk for their baby. Women need technology that keeps up with their busy lifestyles, especially at a time of so much change. We designed Elvie Pump to make breast pumping as easy, streamlined and flexible as possible for mums. Our aim is to transform the way women think and feel about themselves by providing the tools to address the issues that matter most to them, and Elvie Pump does just that. We’re excited to be launching a product we know will be a huge leap forward in this space.”
Elvie Pump is a leap forward for mothers, putting women at the centre of the design process to create an entirely new pumping experience that offers more comfort, freedom and choice than ever before. Designed for ultimate ease, Elvie Pump takes seconds to assemble and has only five parts to clean. The responsive technology even detects milk let down and the pump automatically changes from stimulation to expression mode. The pump will also automatically pause when the bottle is full.
The undignified sound of traditional electric breast pumps is a shock to many new mums, but Elvie’s differentiated technology means the pump is completely silent. Worn under clothing, Elvie Pump offers unprecedented discretion when pumping, soundlessly collecting milk in the self-contained pump placed in their bra. It’s in stealth mode so that women don’t have to be.
