Description

Kofi Annan once said that "we are all influenced by the same tides of political, social, and technological change. Pollution... likewise shows little regard for the niceties of borders; they are problems without passports and, as such, our common enemy."

15 years later, exponential technologies and the fourth industrial revolution have created both opportunities and further challenges to addressing international issues such as climate change.

Keynote speaker Simon Anholt will share his thoughts on how can we harness big data and public diplomacy to enhance our global response to climate change and the other grand challenges? Ian Monroe will response by sharing his thoughts on what a collective climate solution might look like and how integral technology and engineering is to this.

Simon Anholt

Simon has worked with the Heads of State and Heads of Government of more than fifty countries over the last twenty years, helping them to engage more productively and imaginatively with the rest of the world. Simon's 2014 TED talk, "Which country does the most good for the world?", has almost 3 million views and has shaped government policy across the globe. Simon has published five books about countries and their role in the world.

Ian Monroe

Ian is a lecturer on climate-change decision making at Stanford University. Ian's research focuses on developing best practices for renewable energy implementation worldwide, linking energy and climate policy to sound science, with emphasis on improving sustainability criteria for electric vehicles, biomass power, biogas, and liquid biofuel options. Ian gave a TEDx talk in 2015, discussing "How Your Phone Will Stop Climate Change (& Save The World)".
