How can our homes be better designed to tackle loneliness?
Join us for an evening of informal discussion and idea sharing while we explore this question. Our specific focus is on common areas and encouraging resident engagement.
To facilitate the discussions, we will be running a PechaKucha style event and inviting everyone to take part in the conversation after each presentation. There are five speaking slots available. Loneliness is an issue that doesn’t discriminate – it affects everyone and can have profound impacts on our health, both mental and physical. In the UK, there are over 9 million lonely people and it is growing – London holds the sad title of being one of the loneliest cities in the world. Many factors will result in someone feeling lonely, some of which have been linked to the physical space. Walking through a sterile narrow corridor isn’t exactly the most convenient location to potentially stop and have a quick conversation with your neighbour, is it?
As developers and architects, we have the opportunity to make a positive difference by designing spaces where people feel comfortable having a discussion, reaching out to one another, and more generally connecting with their neighbour. In particular, designing our common spaces differently to offer neighbours this opportunity is definitely within our capacity!
This is an open event to anyone who has an interest in the topic and is wanting to make a difference. Architects and developers are notably invited and encouraged to attend.

I have not received my ticket via email. What should I do?
The first thing to do is check your spam/junk filters and inboxes. Your tickets were sent as an attachment and can be thought of as spam by some email services. The approval of refunds is entirely at the event organiser’s discretion, and you should get in contact with the event organiser to discuss what options are available to you. If more tickets become available you will be notified (by email) amongst others who have joined the list. Purchasing is on a first-come first-serve basis. For more information, read here.
