Description

The aim of Hometown Sessions is to create a safe, inclusive and positive environment to promote the highest quality of sound system music and creativity – we want everyone to come down and feel free to express themselves and enjoy a high level of entertainment and musical vibes. To continue fulfilling these aims for the second dance we have invited some of the most dedicated local artists around us in Glasgow,  as well as one of the most active and renowned names in sound system music over the last few decades:

  • Iration Steppas (DJ Set) ft. Macky Banton

“The Vanguard of Dub”; Mark Iration has been running Iration Steppas Sound System out of Leeds since the very early 1990s. A true international soundman and vibes creator, Mark has dedicated his life to sound system and supports all styles of reggae music, but is a true pioneer of the steppers sound. The productions from his Highrise studio are many, and compliment the legendary monthly Iration sessions at SUBDUB, based at the West Indian Centre in Chapeltown (a very similar spot to our own AAC). With Macky Banton providing support on the mic section, their set is sure to run hot as they give the Hometown rig a proper workout – vibes guaranteed.

  • Tom Spirals

An extremely talented & dedicated musician, Tom Spirals will be providing mic section support to Hometown & Crucial Roots throughout the session. Whether holding down his residency at Walk n Skank, working with longtime friend Escape Roots, partaking in the Maxiroots live set or touring with Mungo’s Hi Fi, Tom is a proven purveyor of sound system music and positive vibes, who’s experience at home and abroad with experience and presence that seem to defy his years.

  • Crucial Roots

Long time supporters of the sound system movement in Glasgow, Laurie & Cammy have arguably created a huge following for proper roots music in Glasgow. Their sound focuses on honest, conscious roots productions from the late 70s and 80s, providing a genuinely uplifting session combined with a discerning “know their stuff” vibe.

  • Hometown Promotion Sound System

As always MC Campeazi along with selectors Welshy & James will be running the session, providing sounds from all corners of reggae sound system music as well as the infamous Hometown sound system which will be providing the necessary bassline on the night.

  • Further Information

As part of our aim to create an ever improving environment for the sessions, we have made improvement to the bar menu, security arrangements in venue as well as the return of the smoking area to rear of the venue as opposed to the street at the front.
