    Description

Join us for a FREE screening of the award-winning British cinema classic Sapphire (1959), a fascinating murder mystery exploring the diversity of Black experiences in Britain, a collaboration between History on Film and GUCU solidarity screenings.

Basil Dearden's 1959 Sapphire is a groundbreaking British crime drama that confronted issues of race, identity and institutional prejudice at a time when such themes were rarely addressed on screen. Set against the backdrop of post-war London, the film follows the investigation of a young woman's murder.

As usual, we'll have a post-film discussion. Our guest this month is Black Lives Matter UK's Kojo Kyerewaa. Come for the film, stay for the conversation.

    FREE entry, registration is essential.
